Caregivers forced to take the law into their own hands

Press conference
Tuesday Oct, 6, 2009
Superiour Court, 361 University Avenue.

Caregivers are suing a recruitment agency for compensation for broken promises and exploitation after they were promised jobs that did not exist, had their passports seized by the agency and were pressured and intimidated to pay thousands of dollars.

Caregivers are taking Rakela Care Agency to court to stop fees for job scams and to prevent exploitation of other workers in similar situations. But workers shouldn't be doing the government's job. Caregivers and temporary foreign workers need protection against job scams and exploitation!

We are asking community groups, faith groups and labour groups to join us at the press conference to support these caregivers and demand real protections for temporary foreign workers now. Please bring your banners!

Organized by the Coalition for Change: Caregivers and Temporary Foreign Workers
